Facebook is a one of a kind experience that is now popular among people of all ages, either a professional or a typical student. When you are getting ready to take the SAT, chances are you will have questions. I put a list of some of these questions about the SAT Test into this article with the answers you are looking for. Don’t worry, it’s not that hard and you can do well with a little preparation.

Question: How should I study?

Answer: Use a few simple tools, like the SAT study guide, your notes, and your knowledge from High School. You can hit the test with just a review of your notes and a few practice tests, but you should take additional steps as well. Use a highlighter to make notes of your weaknesses in your SAT Prep Guide or in your SAT Prep Class, and focus on what you want to improve on. Also review your school notes. Some portions of the SAT, like common mathematics equations and vocabulary, should be be studied with flashcards. There are SAT flashcards available for sale, but you can make your own for less than $1 or $2.

Question: What should I look for with a practice SAT test?

Answer: It’s best to look for three things. These are your strengths, and your weaknesses, and the outline of the test,. Don’t rush when taking the practice tests. Sure, the real SAT is a timed test, but for your first practice test, do not time yourself. Just take it easy. You want to carefully read all sections of the test. Get familiar with these sections and the directions. This will help on the day of the test. When grading your practice tests, you can see your strengths and weakness. Then simply focus on improving your weaknesses.

Question: Should I take an SAT prep course?

Answer: SAT Prep courses can be a great investment. Frankly, for most students the SAT test score is a big deal in your choice of College and therefore the direction of your next few years. So if you can find a good course available locally or a decent online class, then yes, do it. Online SAT prep courses can be good, but they tend to be very expensive. A better bet is to get some focused one on one time or a small group class with a good tutor. SAT prep classes, like the ones offered by the Whitefish Study Center, are of higher quality and more personal.

Question: Should I buy an SAT study guide?

Answer: Any SAP Prep class will likely follow a guide, so a Study Guide is recommended for and student taking the test. Most study guides have multiple practice tests, and a good guide is the Barron’s SAT book. These tests are a great way to see the layout of the real SAT. Good prep books not only give the answers, but the logic behind the answers as well. A good SAT prep course and will follow a a printed study guide but you get the benefit of a teacher with the class.

A great way to practice is to take an SAT Prep Course. The Whitefish Study Center conducts SAT Prep Classes in Whitefish Montana. Without a doubt, one of the hardest parts of starting a professional service is pricing your services.

So you want to quit your full time, secure, 8-5 job that guarantees you a weekly income to start a Signing Agent Business. You saw an ad in the local paper or on the internet telling you how you can make $100,000 a year. You bought into this ad, took a course, studied the training and are now raring to go. A few key factors that this course didn’t teach you were “How to run your own business”, “Business Etiquette”, “Marketing”, “Research and Development”, and a million and one other things to becoming successful. Well, I am not about to claim that I know the million things but I will try to help with the other “ONE”, “The Do’s and Don’ts of Setting Pricing;.

If you have done your research then you have a good idea of how much competition you have, you already know where your competition is and how much your competition charges. (No? I didn’t think so but I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt). These are key factors that you need to know. If you have already done this research then you are miles ahead of your competition that took the same class you did. You will also find out that the majority of your successful competitors have done their homework and chances are they know that you are coming into the industry and are also getting ready for a major marketing campaign to over-ride yours. How are you going to compete for the same market share? If you thought that cutting your price was going to do the trick, you better think twice. This may be a great starting gimmick but in the end it will come back and bite you every time.

I will begin with the “Don’ts of Pricing”. Many who have gotten into this business without proper training and guidance have failed and are now going back to an 8-5 job. I will make a great attempt to help you succeed where others have failed. If you have done your homework and have learned what your competition is charging, you are probably thinking, “I will just undercharge them and I should get a bunch of business, and after I have experience I will then raise my prices”. I know this is what you’re thinking because every message board I have read, every chat room I have been to, and every training website I have researched having to do with Signing Agents, is telling you to do the same thing. I will use an example first then get into the meat and potatoes of “Setting Prices”. Let us say that you find that the majority of your competition is charging in the range of $150.00 per signing. You have done your math on all expenses and feel you can do this job for half of that and still make a profit. So you decide you will charge $75.00 per signing, than after six months to a year you will jump your prices to $100.00. That is still $50.00 less than your competition and your customers will still be happy with your fees. Before you continue reading I want you to think long and hard of “How viable is this strategy”?

As I have stated in past articles, I owned a very large construction company. Let us say you had ten contractors give bids on building an addition to your home as an office. Contractor 1 comes and says $20,000, contractor 2 comes and says $20,200 and nine of the ten contractors tell you the same thing with-in $500 of each other. Contractor 10 says $9,999. If you are smart you are going to stop and think twice and you will probably ask yourself “What is wrong with this picture? Either this guy is a fool and doesn’t know what he is doing or he has forgotten half of the addition like my roof and the floor”. The point is chances are you will not use that contractor. So the too much cheaper doesn’t work. The other factor of going half price then increasing your prices later doesn’t work either for this reason. For easy calculation we will say your competition is charging $200.00 per signing and you charge $100.00 per signing. After 1 year you raise your price by $50.00 and are still $50.00 cheaper than your competition. Your clients are NOT going to be happy no matter how much cheaper you are because you just jumped your fees by 25%. This is still an increase no matter how you slice it. The cheaper and raise technique will either get you no work or will still upset your client. The other thing you have to consider when charging way less than your competition is that you are working twice as hard and spending twice as much gas (double all your efforts and expenses) as your competition for the same amount of money. Between you and me and any successful business, this is the road to failure.

It’s a lot easier to overprice your services and offer discounts to your clients–that way, the clients perceive that they are getting a deal, and you are still getting a market rate for your services–than it is to under price your services in the hopes of increasing them later once the clients are “hooked” on your way of doing things.

For those of you who have been in business for some time and are well established but are loosing business to the low-ballers in our industry, try giving a bit of a discount to your clients. Tell them “This month I am going to give you 10% (or whatever % you see fit) off on all your closings and I will extend this offer to all the schedulers in your department”. Not only have you pushed this closer to use you more this month but you just indirectly asked for a “referral”. if you do 1 extra signing that month from a referral or your client uses you one extra time instead of sharing the work with the competition you have made your money back. I am betting you get not only more from the scheduler but you will get additional schedulers contacting you. As a rule we don’t tend to refer friends for business but we sure tell them about a sale.

My recommendation is find out what your competition’s average price is, set your price within the same range then offer a discount from there. If you felt you could do it for half the price, offer your client a 25% New Client discount and then a 10% discount for their first 10 signings. This not only allows you to break into the market but also allows you to give an extended discount plus charge the same rate as your competition in the long run, but now you are also helping keep the Signing Agent industry a viable market for all.

There is always the risk that you will overprice your services at some point. Just keep in mind two important truths. If you do not charge what you are worth:

1. You are guaranteed to burn out quickly; and
2. You will resent your customers for not providing you with a decent living and start treating them like dirt–a sure formula for failure.

I would suggest that you go to your competitors websites and search for pricing. This is not to say you should charge or copy your competitor but the prices are there and they are all over the internet. (Remember my notes on websites, this is another good reason NOT to include your prices on your web pages) take 10, 20 or even 30 set of prices, add them all together then divide them by the number of prices. The formula will look something like this: (I will use 8 sets of numbers not actual prices)

Calculate the average of the following set of numbers:

126, 134, 155, 101, 144, 138, 151, 139

Step 1. 126 + 134 + 155 + 101 + 144 + 138 + 151 + 139 = 1,088

Step 2. There are 8 numbers in the set.

Step 3. 1,088 , 8 = 136

This gives you the average price that your competition is charging.

Next I will make a list of some of the things to consider when setting your pricing.1) Equipment

• Office or Home Office
• Desk
• Stapler

2) Service

• Internet (High Speed if available)
• Wireless Internet (Portable Office)
• Cell Phone

• Secondary Fax Line
• Car maintenance (Oil changes, Tires, Breaks, Windshield wipers, Windshield washer fluid and everything else your car will ever need for repairs)
• Equipment Maintenance
• Additional home Utilities

3) Consumables

• Gas
• On the go Lunches & Snacks
• Printer and Fax Toner
• Printer and Fax Drums
• Paper
• Pens
• Journals
• Staples
• Paper Clips of all shapes and sizes
• Fasteners for Docs (depends on what you use)
• Stamp and/or Seal (Depending on your state requirements)
• All the money you spent on training materials
• All the money you spend and will on memberships with different organizations and Notary Listings
• The time you spend on research and marketing
• Business cards
• Thank you cards
• Flyers
• Website
• Software (accounting, web-design, spreadsheets, PDF etc…)
• Clothes (Business attire)
• Stamps

4) Everything Else

• Time away from home and loved ones
• Last minute signings (You are in the middle of supper and you are rushing off)
• Canceled evening engagements/dates
• Late docs and you are on the road till 1:00 am
• Canceled signings and you have already declined 2 signings for that time slot.
• This list can go on forever and you will learn this after you have been in business for any period of time. You will get upset with clients, you will get extremely stressed, you may need to pay for a message or therapy sessions.

Facebook just came out with its “Professional Profile” application allow FB fans to upload a resume, import their LinkedIn content, hang out a “seeking employment” sign and connect with a professional network. With my background in Career Services this naturally inspired me to check it out. If you go to your account and click on “application settings”, you will see an application called “Professional Profile”. Clicking on this application will bring you to a page that will give you three tabs or options. They are: Professional Network, Resume and For Hire.

Uploading the resume is as simple as uploading a MS Word document. However I opted to have FB pull information from my LinkedIn profile. This too was simple and looks GREAT! It even pulls in your recommendations and lists them at the end of your resume.

With a simple click you can post a resume badge to your profile.

Everything is as slick as can be until I try to use the network feature. First, a series of errors, this of course is all gobbled junk to me so I scroll down.

Scrolling down I see the people on my FB friend’s list and have the option to “Add to your Network”. I see one of our beloved Admissions Advisor’s Belinda and click “Add to your Network” to add her. Crash. The computer freezes up and does nothing. I have to close out of Facebook and log-in again. I am sure FB will work out these bugs and a report out from Belinda indicates that she did not receive an invite from me. I will try again tomorrow.

The last feature is “Add to for Hire”. Now, if you are looking for a job this is great, click it! However if you are not looking for a job and just putting your information out there to network, do not click it. You don’t want your employer or fellow employees to see you on the “hey I am looking for a job” FB page so please be cautious about using this feature.

This then brings me to using FB as a tool to job search. Facebook will not be an effective tool for your job search if your profile is not professional. I recommend reading “My Two Faces (book)” to learn more about separating your personal Facebook self from your professional Facebook self.

So many people tend to go too far in sharing their lives online and don’t remember the very real consequences that can occur. Here is a list of seven things you should never put on Facebook.

Contact details

Put up your hands everyone who stands in the middle of a shopping centre and shouts out their name, home address and telephone number. No one? Well why then do people persist in putting these details on the internet for the entire world to see? And then they wonder how some crazy stalker is able to track them down…

Photos of their (or other people’s) children

Okay, maybe I’m sounding slightly paranoid here, but with the amount of child molesters in the world, and especially on the internet, you can’t be too careful. So you put a picture of your child on your Facebook profile for relatives in England to see how big they’ve grown, it is not always just family and friends who want to look at those pictures. Rather try using e-mail to send the pics to only certain people, or even the good old fashioned snail mail.

Conversations

Some conversations are private. You may be talking about things you or the person you are talking to don’t want to be made public. Mistakenly letting the conversation go public could lead to the airing of some personal secrets that can ruin relationships (e.g. “I heard you’re pregnant! Congratulations!”).

You could be having a random conversation about something only the two of you could possibly care about. You may even be peppering the conversation with private “in-jokes” that no one else even understands. Here’s a hint: nobody want’s to see this filling up their newsfeed, we don’t care if Superman could beat Mr. Fantastic, or what your all-time favourite sandwich was.

Social plans

Many people announce that they plan on going to “so-and so’s birthday party”, or that they are throwing their own party. Unless you are very choosy and only have a handful of Facebook friends, it is unlikely that everyone who can see the posts about your plans will be going to the party. It also may not just be your Facebook friends who see this, other people going to the party may post it on their wall, there for even more to see. While many people wont care about not being invited, others can feel hurt and left out.

Relationship status

There is a story of a couple who seconds after the priest had pronounced them married, whipped out their phones and updated their relationship status on Facebook to “married”. In this case the couple had already planned the update, and had let their family and friends know what they were doing. Sometimes however, these updates can come as a big shock to the people who really should be told in person.

First of all, it is really cowardly to break up with someone by simply changing your Facebook status to “single” without saying anything to your partner first. Other things like changing your status to “engaged” without first telling your parents and close family may lead to a few fights and hurt feelings. I’m not saying you shouldn’t post your relationship status, just that you might want to think before changing it.

Finally, as some medical students in America discovered, it is not the most tasteful thing to post pictures of you and the body you are dissecting, especially if relatives of the person who donated the body stumble upon them.

A MySpace div layout is placed on top of the existent default profile with special MySpace coding all program features still function properly. MySpace flash layouts are the most interactive and visually impressive. A MySpace flash layout is designed using the div overlay technique and flash animation. When you’ve found your MySpace designer and selected the type of MySpace design best fits your needs the design process goes like any other website design process. When your MySpace layout is complete it’s time to start marketing. Marketing on MySpace consists of requesting MySpace friends and then interacting with those friends. Be sure to add friends that may be interested in purchasing your products and services.

The first step to a FaceBook campaign is creating a FaceBook account. Unlike MySpace layouts a FaceBook layout is not customizable. One of the best things about FaceBook is the ability to market to your target demographics. I recommend starting a payper click campaign. My business uses FaceBook to market to college grads. Be sure to place links on your FaceBook profile to your MySpace layout and regular website.

LinkedIn is a business social networking website. A LinkedIn profile is essential for networking with other business professionals. LinkedIn is the place to interacting with other businesses you contract with. It’s a place to get advice from business owners. It’s also a place to have other business professional right recommendations for you. Although this social networking website doesn’t get a massive portion of Internet traffic the individual who use LinkedIn are highly professional and influential.

A presence on these three social networks is a good start to increasing and diversifying your web presence. Remember to post links to all of your social network profiles and your websites on each account. Online social networking is about building relationships and you’ll find it’s easy to build these relationships with your target market with these resources.

Most artists and galleries trying to make art sales through the internet post a bunch of work and prices and a little bit about the artist and hope for the best. Some sales occasionally get made this way but it could be so much stronger if the strategy were different.

You do need the gallery of work, statements about the artist and philosophy and that other standard material you should have in an artist package. However, you should not expect that tool to sell art. Such a site is for you to direct galleries, museums, dealers and journalists to so they can learn more about you and your work and how it might enhance their efforts to further their goals. It is not about getting your work sold…at least not directly. It is about furthering your overall art practice and about advancing your artistic career.

Online sales of specific pieces of artwork is a different beastie altogether. People buy art because they connect with a piece emotionally, they view it in light of its investment or status potential or both. On the other hand, they fail to buy a piece they otherwise desire because of insecurity and fear about whether or not it is money well spent.

Facebook is one online environment in which you can attend to all of that at once. You can build up emotional attachment through attracting fans and spurring open dialog in that safe environment. You can enhance investment potential the same way through building up a fan base and attention to the piece. And, since this is all done on the Wall of the Facebook Fan Page people who are interested in owning the piece will see that it is known, has a following and that people talk about it… regularly. All of that works together to build emotional attachment, investment and status potential and kills off fear that it might be a flop piece.

By building a Facebook Fan Page unique to each piece of artwork you create you can give it a life of its own out there in the world far beyond your studio walls. You can post photos of your art piece as well as detail shots and in progress shots to give the fans a real taste of the piece…even more than if they were seeing it in the usual hands off gallery environment. You can create multiple tabs on the fan page that speak to different groups of people that might be interested in your work so you can bring them into the piece from a perspective that makes sense to them specifically rather than relying on everyone having the same understanding you do. You can have a dialog on the Wall of the fan page with the fans to bring the piece to life through lively and ongoing discussion.

What does all this do for selling your piece of art? It builds a following of people who are genuinely interested in this particular piece of artwork. When you use a Facebook Fan Page as the presentation vehicle not only you, but every single visitor can see how many others are interested. Once you reach a critical mass of people discussing your piece you may start to get direct inquiries from people who see the growing interest in the piece and are starting to think about owning it…their fear of making a bad choice dissolved by the obvious and recorded attention the piece is getting.

Connecting Twitter to Facebook

If you enjoy using Social Media Websites chances are that you would have a Facebook account as well as a Twitter account. Both of these allow you to make updates to your status. By creating a connection between these two accounts you only need to write your message once as it will be posted to the other one automatically.

There are two ways of creating the connection between Facebook and Twitter. You can link your Twitter account to your personal Facebook account; or you can link your Facebook Page to your Twitter account. In the first option the message goes from Twitter to Facebook and in the second option it goes from Facebook to Twitter. For instance if you use Twitter regularly just write your message on your Twitter account and it will be posted automatically on your Facebook account. You will see it on your Facebook profile page and it will appear on the Facebook News Feed. Here is how you can do that in just a few simple steps.

Connecting Your Twitter Account to Your Personal Facebook Account

In this connection when you write a message on your Twitter account it gets automatically posted into your Facebook status and Wall. Here are 5 simple steps how you can make that connection. You need to be logged into your Facebook account in order to do this.

Step 1 – Locate the Twitter Application

The Twitter application as well as many other cool applications are stored in the Facebook Applications area. You can access it directly at the following URL (just copy and paste into your browser): http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2231777543

Once you have located the application click the blue ‘Go to Application’ -button.

Step2 – Allow Access

By clicking the ‘Allow’ -button you will authorise Twitter and Facebook create the connection needed. Go ahead and… click.

Step 3 – Log on to Twitter

Next you will need to log in to your Twitter account to make the connection happen. Since we are creating a connection to your personal Facebook account you should use your personal Twitter account here as well.
