There are a great deal of problems with viruses, SpyWare, MalWare, AdWare, and most recently RansomWare in software programs affecting many millions of computer users. Each of these forms have their own specific purposes, but ultimately they are designed to ruin your system. SpyWare and ransomware together are in their own way responsible for rise in identity theft.
Every word you type on your computer is tracked on SpyWare; RansomWare causes your computer to lock up and it can’t re-opened for Internet access until you supply your credit card information. After gathering information, these programs send it to the people who put them in place who may then use your information to assume your identity. Firewall software is designed to prevent the invasion of malicious software by monitoring data transfer and blocking the most commonly misused ports.
Firewalls allow you to specify which inbound programs will be allowed entry, and which are not. Outgoing data can be screened in the same way. This is helpful if you were affected by SpyWare, where the program infiltrates your computer, but your firewall rules do not allow it to transmit its data. Parasites are not only responsible for identity theft, they also can corrupt your operating system files to such an extent that your computer will need to be reformatted.
Data corruption may cause huge data losses for individuals who haven’t safeguarded their information. This is the reason why it’s vital to make sure to back up all your most important information, such as data of a financial nature and tax records, at least once a month. Depending on the types of data a business needs to preserve, daily and weekly data backups of certain kinds of information are recommended. That way, in case there is a problem, you will be able to restore all your information easily.
Installing a desktop firewall on your computer can protect you against computer viruses and other types of computer parasites. These parasites are created to reign havoc on your computer operating system, as well as steal your identity. It’s important to note that a firewall is as smart as its user – the majority of them won’t operate until they get confirmation from you. A good rule of thumb is to use caution when you surf the Internet, and to steer clear of suspicious emails.
